This is death metal that leans into the putrid end of the spectrum, chunky riffs, suffocating atmosphere, and absolutely no interest in being accessible to anyone who isn't already neck-deep in the dark aesthetic of the genre. The Oakland scene has been quietly producing some of the most uncompromising extreme metal of the last decade, and Evulse are a solid entry point into that world if you've been sleeping on it. A worthy addition to any serious death metal vinyl collection, and one of those records that rewards the kind of attention you can only give it on a proper turntable.
