Death metal that sounds like it was recorded somewhere nobody would think to look for you. Evulse are American, the genre is as old as your older sibling's most intimidating record collection, and Call of the Void is exactly the kind of album that earns its title.

This is ugly death metal in the best possible sense, rooted in the filthy mid-period tradition that owes as much to Autopsy and Incantation as it does to anything remotely polished. If your death metal needs to be clean, this cassette is going to offend you. That's the point. Side A opens with Hypochondr and the rest follows suit, relentless and committed to its own darkness in a way that a lot of the genre's more sanitised corners have completely forgotten how to be.
