German power metal in 2004 was doing one of two things: getting progressively more cinematic or getting progressively more ridiculous. Edguy, to their credit, leaned into both at once.

Hellfire Club is the album where Tobias Sammet fully committed to the theatrical excess that made Edguy one of Europe's most entertaining acts in the genre. Big choruses, operatic reaches, guitar work that never met a melody it didn't want to twin-lead into the stratosphere. It sits comfortably alongside the Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray catalogue as peak melodic European metal, the kind of album that soundtracked a generation of import CD collectors haunting record fairs and mail-order catalogues before Bandcamp existed.
