Dystopia were from Oakland, they hated everything that deserved to be hated, and they made records that sounded like the city was collapsing on itself from the inside out.

Active through the nineties and early 2000s, they sat at the intersection of sludge metal and crust punk in a way that felt genuinely uncomfortable, which was entirely the point. The Human=Garbage EP, the split records, the slow crawl of The Aftermath, it all added up to one of the most uncompromising catalogs in heavy underground music. Not a band that crossed over. Not a band that wanted to. The Sleep tee carries that same refusal. It belongs in the rotation with the black hoodies, the grunge layers, and the horror-adjacent dark aesthetic that runs through the ALT CVLT DNA, worn by people who know the difference between doom as a pose and doom as a worldview.
