DRAGONFORCE Reaching Into Infinity CD 2017

You already know what DragonForce sounds like. Everybody does. The question is whether Reaching Into Infinity is worth your time, and the answer is yes, particularly if you've ever wanted your power metal to come with a side of actual hooks underneath the shred.

2017 marked a settled-in moment for the band's post-ZP lineup, with Marc Hudson doing the work across a record that leans harder into the melodic side of the UK's most chaotically fast contribution to the metal canon. The title track alone earns its place, and the album as a whole is less relentless than some of their earlier work, which depending on your relationship with DragonForce is either a relief or a disappointment. Either way, this is the kind of alternative metal and power metal crossover that belongs in a collection next to your Helloween and your Blind Guardian without apology.
