Jim Morrison wrote the lyrics to "L.A. Woman" in a bathtub. Three months later he was dead in Paris. The album landed in 1971 as both a resurrection and a eulogy, a band stripping back to raw blues and dark groove while their singer was already halfway out the door.

"L.A. Woman" is The Doors at their most untamed, less the psychedelic theatre of their early work, more swamp rock and Southern gothic filtered through a city that eats its own mythology. Morrison as the Lizard King, as the highway blur, as the ghost of American rock and roll before punk had to come along and bury it properly. This tee is for people who know that the classic rock tag never quite fitted them either.
