DISTURBED The Sickness CD (2002)
The Sickness is the reason half a generation learned what a drop-D tuning was. Released in 2000 and reissued in 2002, it's one of the definitive documents of the nu-metal moment, and it has aged considerably better than the cargo pants.
Down With the Sickness became a cultural fixture, Stupify and Numb hit just as hard on the album, and David Draiman's vocal style, all controlled aggression and locked-in rhythmic bark, made Disturbed immediately identifiable in a genre that was crowded even then. This is the ground-zero record for anyone building out their heavy alternative or metal CD collection, and it still sounds genuinely threatening played loud.
