DISTURBED Divisive CD (2022)

Twenty-five years in and Disturbed are still doing the thing nobody else can quite replicate, that particular brand of heavy that soundtracked a million suburban bedrooms and still hits harder than it has any right to.

Released in 2022, Divisive is the band's ninth studio album and, given the title, they're not pretending the world isn't on fire. David Draiman sounds as ferocious as ever, the riffs are thick enough to chew, and the album leans into the kind of anthemic, chest-beating nu-metal that made The Sickness a landmark record two decades ago. This isn't a band coasting. There's genuine venom here, and enough melodic hooks to keep it from becoming a slog. For fans of the Melbourne alternative scene who grew up with this stuff in their DNA, it still lands.
