Germany, 1987. The Teutonic thrash scene was running on cheap beer, raw rage, and a collective refusal to be outdone by the Americans. Destruction were right in the thick of it, and the Mad Butcher EP is four tracks of proof.

This isn't the kind of release you stumble across. Alongside Kreator and Sodom, Destruction helped define a strain of thrash that was nastier, more chaotic, and considerably less polished than the Bay Area stuff, and Mad Butcher sits neatly in that lineage. The title track alone is a clinic in controlled violence. If you've been chasing this one, the marbled vinyl pressing is a genuinely handsome object for a genuinely ugly record, and that's meant as the highest compliment.
