Maximum Deftones is an unauthorised spoken word biography released in 2003, covering the Sacramento band's trajectory from scrappy alt-metal upstarts to one of the most genuinely influential acts to emerge from the post-grunge era. It contains no original Deftones music, carries no authorisation from the band, their label or management, and Chino Moreno has almost certainly never listened to it. What it is, is a time capsule of a particular moment in alternative music journalism, right before White Pony had finished rewiring everyone's expectations of what heavy music could sound like. Collector curiosity rather than essential listening.
