By 2014, Decapitated had already survived things that would have ended most bands permanently. Blood Mantra was the sound of them coming back heavier, stranger, and considerably less interested in meeting anyone halfway.

Where their early technical death metal work made them darlings of the theory-obsessed underground, Blood Mantra leaned harder into groove without losing the clinical precision that made them dangerous. It's the kind of record that sounds like it was engineered to cause structural damage. The CD/DVD deluxe digipak edition is the right way to own it, with the visual component giving context to a band whose live show is an event in itself. Poland's contribution to extreme metal is frequently underrated outside of dedicated circles, and Decapitated remain its most internationally recognised export for good reason.
