Chester Bennington made Out Of Ashes as a side project in 2009, and it hit different from everything else on the alternative rock landscape that year, stripped back, raw, and clearly personal in a way that his other work didn't always get to be.

Dead By Sunrise was the project Bennington built with Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh from Orgy, which is a starting point that should already tell you this wasn't going to be a radio-safe exercise. Out Of Ashes leans into post-grunge melancholy and dark alternative rock with a weight that retrospect has only made heavier. This 2024 reissue gives it the treatment it deserves: a black ice translucent 2LP deluxe limited edition pressed for Record Store Day, the kind of physical release that makes the songs feel like they're supposed to take up space in your room. It belongs in the same shelf as your Deftones records and your blacked-out windows.
