In early 1994, Darkthrone recorded Transilvanian Hunger in a matter of days and essentially handed black metal its final form.

Nocturno Culto and Fenriz stripped everything back to a blizzard of trebly riffs, programmatic repetition, and cold so absolute it functions less like music and more like weather. The production, deliberately lo-fi and recorded at Necrohell Studios, became as influential as the compositions themselves, inspiring a generation of Norwegian and international black metal acts who understood that brutality had nothing to do with budget. The four Varg Vikernes lyrics on side two created controversy that still follows the record, but the music stands entirely on its own terms. This limited edition 180g pressing gives the album the weight it always deserved. Essential for any serious dark aesthetic vinyl collection.
