DARKTHRONE - Old Star VINYL

Darkthrone have been doing whatever they want since the early nineties, and at this point the genre tags are just suggestions they've stopped reading.

Old Star, released in 2019, finds Fenriz and Nocturno Culto deep in the slower, doomier end of their catalogue, drawing as much from Bathory's Viking era and classic NWOBHM as anything from the second wave black metal scene they helped define. The riffs are massive and unhurried, the production deliberately raw, the whole thing soaked in that specific Darkthrone atmosphere that feels like it was recorded in a Norwegian winter at 3am. It is. It always is. If you came expecting Transilvanian Hunger, adjust. If you're a lifer, you already know this one hits.
