DARKTHRONE Astral Fortress Deluxe Boxset

Fenriz and Nocturno Culto stopped caring what anyone thought about thirty years ago, and Astral Fortress, released in 2022, is the sound of two men absolutely thriving because of it.

By this point Darkthrone had long since left the kvlt-or-nothing gatekeeping behind, cheerfully pillaging heavy metal, crust punk, and doom alongside the black metal they basically codified. Astral Fortress leans hard into that late-era mode, cold and riff-heavy, with the particular atmosphere of a band that has nothing left to prove and nowhere else they'd rather be. The deluxe boxset is the right way to own this one. Clear triple vinyl, a CD, a cassette, an A4 letter from the band, and art prints, which is about as close as Darkthrone gets to throwing a party. Norwegian black metal presented as a physical artefact worth keeping.
