DARKTHRONE: A Blaze In The Northern Sky Vinyl LP

There are records that influenced a genre and there are records that are the genre. This is one of them.

Recorded in 1991 after Darkthrone abruptly abandoned a death metal deal with Peaceville and drove straight into the frozen void, A Blaze in the Northern Sky is the document where Norwegian black metal became itself. Fenriz and Nocturno Culto stripped everything back to tremolo, static, and atmosphere, and the result was a record that sounded like bad weather given human form. Euronymous plays a guest role. The production is intentionally hostile. It remains one of the most influential alternative music recordings to come out of the early nineties underground, and unlike a lot of its peers, it actually holds up as a listening experience rather than just an artefact.
