Polish black metal that sounds like it was recorded in a crypt during a power outage, by people who preferred it that way. Cultes Des Ghoules have built a reputation on this kind of deliberately suffocating atmosphere, and Spectres Over Transylvania is where that vision crystallised into something genuinely unnerving.

Released in 2011 as a 12" EP, this sits in that lineage of Eastern European black metal that owes as much to horror iconography as it does to the second wave, drawing on Celtic Frost's lumbering dread and the ritualistic filth that bands like Mayhem perfected in basements across Scandinavia. Cultes Des Ghoules took all of that and dragged it somewhere murkier. The gothic horror atmosphere is less aesthetic choice and more actual worldview.
