Before Cruelty and the Beast. Before Dusk and Her Embrace became the gothic metal bible for a generation of eyeliner-wearing teenagers in regional Victoria. There was V Empire, and it was already clear that something genuinely strange was happening in Suffolk.

Released in 1996 under the full title Dark Faerytales in Phallustein, this EP sits in that perfect early window where Cradle of Filth were pushing symphonic black metal into places it had no business going, all Victorian darkness, orchestral excess, and Dani's shriek cutting through like a blade through black velvet. It's a document of a band becoming the thing they were always meant to be, and thirty years on it still sounds like nothing else.
