COLD PROPHET: I Cassette

Finland produces extreme metal the way the rest of the world produces excuses. COLD PROPHET are a case in point: their debut record I lands somewhere in the unholy overlap of black metal, death metal, ambient and industrial, which is either your exact thing or it isn't, and if you're here, it probably is.

This is dense, layered music that doesn't rush to meet you. It has the cold mechanical pressure of industrial, the atmospheric sprawl of dark ambient, and enough death and black metal grit to keep things from ever getting too comfortable. Think along the lines of MORMOTH's suffocating atmosphere or OSCULUM SERPENTIS at their most cavernous, with something even more modern and machine-edged running underneath. The cassette format suits it perfectly, adding a little tape hiss and warmth to music that otherwise has no interest in warmth whatsoever.
