COFFINWORM Great Bringer Of Night Vinyl (2009)
Some records don't want to be enjoyed. Great Bringer of Night is one of them. Indianapolis's Coffinworm arrived in 2009 already sounding like they'd been buried for decades, and this debut EP is the muffled noise coming up through the dirt.
Blackened sludge doom at its most confrontational, this is the kind of record that makes Eyehategod sound like yacht rock. It sits comfortably in that post-2000s underground where bands like Dragged Into Sunlight and Lord Mantis were turning metal into something genuinely unpleasant to be around, in the best possible way. The guitar tone alone is a public health concern. If your interest in dark aesthetic runs deeper than the surface, this is where the real work happens.
Vinyl format. 2009 pressing. Indianapolis, USA. Blackened sludge, doom metal.
