Calving is where Melbourne's Class Traitor established exactly what kind of band they were going to be. The post-metal framework is there, the long-form builds, the dynamic shifts from near-silence to full crushing weight, but there's a bleakness underneath the craft that keeps it from ever feeling polished or safe.
