Burton C. Bell left Fear Factory and promptly proved he had more to say. City of Fire was his post-industrial detour into something heavier and more groove-locked, and this 2010 self-titled debut is the document of that moment.

If you spent the late 90s and early 2000s with Demanufacture on repeat, or you know exactly what Obsolete did to a generation of Australian metal kids, this record will feel like familiar territory with the edges filed down and the groove turned up. Hard rock infrastructure, groove metal weight, the kind of production that hits properly through speakers. Bell's presence alone earns this a place in any serious collection of that era's dark, mechanised heavy music.
