Before Carpathian Forest became synonymous with confrontational Norwegian black metal, there were the demos. Raw, ugly, and absolutely essential, Bloodlust and Perversion documents the band in their earliest and arguably most unhinged form, before the production caught up with the vision.

This is the foundation of everything that followed, the scraped-bone aesthetic and gothic horror fixation that made Carpathian Forest one of the more genuinely strange acts to emerge from the 90s Norwegian scene. Nattefrost and Nordavind were building something that sat adjacent to the second wave but never quite inside it, too weird, too theatrical, too fixated on the macabre. Collectors and anyone serious about the history of dark metal need to hear where it started.
