BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE The Poison 2005 (2018) Debut Album Reissue

There was a moment in the mid-2000s when melodic metalcore had a stranglehold on every second bedroom in the English-speaking world, and The Poison was a big reason why. Bullet For My Valentine arrived from Bridgend, Wales in 2005 with hooks sharp enough to draw blood and guitar work that had more in common with classic thrash and heavy metal than the chug-and-scream of their peers.

Almost twenty years on, the album holds up better than most of its contemporaries. The dual guitar leads, the vocal melodies that somehow work despite everything, the production that was polished enough for radio but heavy enough to mean it, this is a record that understood both sides of the slash in melodic metalcore. The 2018 reissue brings it back for a generation that missed it and the original fans who wore theirs out.
