Bloodbath exist to remind you that death metal is not supposed to be comfortable. A Swedish supergroup assembled from the wreckage of Opeth, Katatonia, and Hypocrisy, they approached the genre less like a side project and more like a blood oath, and The Fathomless Mastery is where that oath got carved deepest.

Released in 2008 with Mikael Åkerfeldt behind the mic for the last time on a Bloodbath record, The Fathomless Mastery is old-school Swedish death metal with the volume knob snapped off at maximum. Buzzsaw guitars, vocals dragged up from somewhere subterranean, and a production job that sounds like it was mixed inside a meat locker. If you've been sleeping on this one, hand in your patch jacket.
