BLACK SABBATH - Paranoid VINYL
1970. Four guys from Birmingham recorded an album that accidentally invented heavy metal, doom, stoner rock, and about forty subgenres that wouldn't have names for another decade. Paranoid is not a classic the way people call things classics when they mean "old and inoffensive." It's the blueprint.
Side one alone contains "War Pigs," "Paranoid," and "Iron Man." That's not a tracklist, that's a syllabus. Iommi's detuned riffs, Ward's jazz-trained drums hitting like a wrecking ball, Geezer's bass locked into something that still sounds wrong in the best possible way, and Ozzy doing Ozzy before Ozzy was a thing anyone knew to expect. This 2012 remaster on 180g vinyl is the way to actually own this, not just stream it on shuffle between algorithm picks.
