BLACK FLAG: Everything Went Black LP

Before there was a canon, someone had to build it. Everything Went Black arrived in 1982 as a double compilation of pre-Rollins Black Flag, pulling together tracks from the Chavo Pederast, Ron Reyes, and Dez Cadena eras, released while Greg Ginn was literally fighting the label in court. SST put it out anyway. Of course they did.

This is the document that proves Black Flag were always more than one voice, more than one era of rage. The early recordings are rawer, more feral, the kind of hardcore punk that sounds like it was recorded in a room that hated you. "Clocked In," "No Values," "Jealous Again" hit differently when you understand the chaos surrounding their release. Essential not just as a record but as evidence, the proof that the Los Angeles underground was genuinely unhinged in the best possible way.
