Post-hardcore has always had room for the existential, but Being As An Ocean took it somewhere more literary. Their 2015 self-titled arrived at a moment when the band had found a voice distinct enough that they didn't need a title to announce it.

The San Bernardino band built their name on records that layered spoken word against walls of melodic post-hardcore, and this one continues that conversation without repeating it. Tracks like The Zealot's Blindfold and Sleeping Sicarii carry the weight the band had been building toward, dense, searching, and more musically ambitious than the genre tag gives them credit for.
