Savannah, Georgia handed the metal world something genuinely strange in 2019, and most of the genre still hasn't caught up. Gold & Grey is Baroness doing whatever they want, which at this point means prog, psych, noise, and something that sounds like a collapsing cathedral, all crammed into a double album that refuses to sit still.

This is the record that cemented Baroness as one of the most interesting heavy bands alive, full stop. John Baizley's cover art alone justifies wall space, but the music, swinging between crushingly heavy and genuinely beautiful, is why this belongs in any serious collection. If you've been sleeping on them since Blue Record, this is the wake-up call. Alternative metal and dark aesthetic collectors, this one's for you.
