BAD BRAINS Rock For Light Vinyl LP
There are fast bands and then there are Bad Brains, a category that has existed largely alone since 1982. Rock for Light remains one of the most technically overwhelming records in the hardcore canon, and it was produced by Ric Ocasek, which still feels like an unlikely detail that turned out perfectly.
The DC four-piece were playing reggae and punk simultaneously before anyone had a framework for it, and Rock for Light documents them at the height of their powers, HR's vocals shifting between spiritual intensity and controlled chaos while the band played circles around everyone else on the circuit. The yellow vinyl pressing is the one you want on the shelf. This is a cornerstone record for anyone who takes hardcore, metal, or the wider alternative underground seriously, and it looks exactly as good as it sounds.
Vinyl LP, yellow vinyl pressing. Re-released September 2021 via PVC Records. Standard LP format.
