Japan's industrial underground has always operated at a frequency slightly out of phase with the rest of the world, and Baal are no exception. Religion 616 arrived in 2008 from that precise corner of the dark electronic spectrum where ritual structure meets machine hostility.

The title is not subtle, and neither is the record. Electronic/industrial from Japan carries a particular lineage, from the noise artists of the early tape scene through to harder-edged club-adjacent darkness, and this sits somewhere in that tradition with its own warped logic. The kind of thing that makes sense at 2am in a poorly lit room, or in a record collection that already has Skinny Puppy and early Merzbow somewhere in the stack. Gothic and industrial aesthetics, filtered through a distinctly Japanese lens.
