AXIS OF ADVANCE The List CD (2002)

Canadian black/death metal has its own particular strain of cold-blooded hostility, and Axis of Advance were one of the most uncompromising outfits to come out of that scene. Formed in Edmonton, rotating around members with ties to Revenge and Conqueror, they didn't make records so much as they made declarations.

The List from 2002 is exactly what you'd expect from a band carrying that lineage, which is to say it's chaotic, vicious, and not remotely interested in making things easy for the listener. The production is deliberately harsh, the riffs arrive like blunt force, and the whole thing sits comfortably in that war metal adjacent territory that Impiety and Archgoat also inhabit. This is black metal informed by death metal's brutality and absolutely nothing else. Not background music. Not entry level. For the already converted.
