ARCTURUS Shipwrecked In Oslo - Live Rockefeller 2005
Avant-garde black metal sounds like a contradiction until you hear Arcturus, at which point it sounds like the only logical conclusion.
Recorded live at Rockefeller in Oslo on 24 September 2005, Shipwrecked In Oslo documents one of Norway's most genuinely unclassifiable bands at a venue that knows exactly what to do with them. Arcturus took the raw architecture of atmospheric black metal and ran it through orchestration, cabaret, theatrical darkness, and a gothic sensibility that owed as much to classic European weirdness as it did to the Norwegian underground. Garm's vocal performance alone puts this in a separate category from almost any other metal live release you'll find. This is the dark aesthetic at full stretch, music that refuses to be pinned down and looks incredible doing it.
