Antisect came out of the early 80s UK anarcho-punk scene that Crass cracked open, and then kept going somewhere darker and heavier than most of their contemporaries were willing to follow. Crust before crust had a name. Metal before that felt like selling out.

The Rising of the Lights is their 2017 return, and it's not a nostalgia play. Pete Lyons and the reconstituted lineup came back with something that earns its place next to In Darkness There Is No Choice rather than just trading on it. The record sits in that dense space between post-punk dread and crust aggression, with a production weight that actually does justice to what they were always trying to sound like. If you were there in the Discharge and Amebix years you know exactly why this matters, and if you weren't, this is as good a place as any to understand what that lineage actually sounds like when it's done with conviction rather than cosplay.
