Some bands peak on their third record. Angelcorpse peaked on their third record and then promptly dissolved, which is almost the more punk outcome.

The Inexorable, released 1999 on Osmose Productions, is the final statement from the original lineup and it hits like a band who knew it. The riff architecture is denser than Exterminate, the tempos more relentless, and Helmkamp's lyrical obsessions with Nietzschean violence and anti-theism are fully articulated here. Palubicki is again doing things on guitar that shouldn't technically be possible at this speed. Tracks like Phallelujah and Reap the Whirlwind became touchstones for a generation of extreme metal bands who understood that blackened death wasn't just about aesthetics, it was about absolute sonic aggression. The fact that this record has been out of print more often than it's been available tells you everything about underground distribution and nothing about its quality.
