ANATOMY - The Witches of Dathomir CD (1999)
By 1999, Anatomy had refined the chaos without defanging it. The Witches of Dathomir arrives three years after Where Angels Die with the same Melbourne underground DNA intact, a little tighter, no less ugly, and with a title that suggests the band's sense of humour was still firmly in the driver's seat alongside the blasphemy.
This is Australian black/death metal on its own terms, not chasing European trends, not softening anything for a wider audience. The tradition it sits in is the same one that produced Sadistik Exekution and Vomitor, bands who understood that the point was commitment, not accessibility. A necessary piece of the local extreme metal puzzle and one of the harder Anatomy releases to track down.
