By 2013 Amon Amarth had long stopped needing to prove anything. Deceiver of the Gods arrived like a longship that already knew it had won, stacked with anthems about gods, betrayal, and the sort of melodic death metal riffing that makes you want to flip a table in the most cathartic way possible.

The title track alone, with its Lemmy Kilmister guest spot, is worth the price of entry. This is Viking metal at its most accessible without a single concession that feels like a sellout. Johan Hegg sounds like he gargled with the North Sea and liked it. If your Friday night involves Norse mythology, dark imagery, and something loud, this belongs in your collection.
