AMITY AFFLICTION, (The) Misery CD (2018)

By 2018 The Amity Affliction had already built one of the most loyal followings in Australian heavy music, and Misery is the record they made for those people specifically, no apologies, no pivot to radio rock.

Where some bands start softening edges around album five or six, the Amity leaned back into the weight here. The production is massive, the subject matter is as bleak as the title suggests, and Joel Birch continues to write about mental health and loss with a directness that a lot of heavy bands still shy away from. That honesty is a big part of why this band matters in a way that outlasts trends. Australian metalcore with genuine stakes behind it.
