AGHAST VIEW, Trendsetter (2002) CD

The title is either a joke or a mission statement, probably both. By 2002 Aghast View had been at it long enough to have opinions, and Trendsetter reflects a band leaning further into the electro end of their sound without losing the industrial edge that made Carcinopest worth paying attention to in the first place.

Where their earlier work was all blunt force, Trendsetter shows some range, the production is sharper, the hooks are more deliberate, and the dancefloor is clearly somewhere in their sightline. São Paulo's answer to the European EBM establishment, still doing it on their own terms four years on. This is the kind of catalog deep cut that surfaces in industrial DJ sets and makes people pull out their phones to Shazam it, only to find out it was Brazil all along.
