Climax Of Hatred, released in 2005 on Drakkar Productions, sits in the harder end of the French black metal tradition, raw and unrelenting but with enough structure to keep it from collapsing under its own fury. Ad Hominem's output from this period was some of the most confrontational black metal coming out of Europe, and this record captures them at full hostility. It belongs alongside the Scandinavian heavyweights but it arrived from a scene doing its own thing entirely, and it sounds like it. Essential for anyone serious about the genre's darker, more extreme corners.
