Glacial is exactly what funeral doom metal promises and rarely delivers this completely, a single suffocating movement that earns its runtime by refusing to rush. There's a lineage here running through Mournful Congregation, Evoken, and the slower, more desolate end of Skepticism, but Abyssal find their own frozen register. The 2024 LP pressing gives this the weight it deserves, vinyl being the only format that really suits music this committed to dragging you under. If you've been sleeping on the Mexican extreme metal underground, this is a reasonable place to wake up.
