SKITLIV Amfetamin (2008) CD

Maniac from Mayhem and Shining's Niklas Kvarforth sharing studio space was either the best or worst idea anyone had in 2008, depending on your tolerance for misanthropic black metal that wallows in its own damage. It was obviously the best idea.

SKITLIV (Norwegian for "miserable life") was the project that crawled out of that collaboration, and Amfetamin is its defining statement. Four tracks of suffocating black/doom that sits somewhere between Kvarforth's signature depressive spiral and Maniac's post-Mayhem restlessness, both of them clearly committed to making something genuinely uncomfortable. The title track alone runs over seven minutes of slow-burn wreckage, and the Shining cover that closes things out completes the circle. This is not background music. This is the record you put on when you want the room to feel different.
