Before Australian black metal had a scene to speak of, there were a handful of acts doing it properly in the dark with no blueprint and no audience. Samain were among them.

Indomitus (1996) is a document from that era, Australian black metal laced with folk sensibility, raw in the way that mid-nineties underground recordings are raw because that was the only option, not an aesthetic choice. It sits alongside the broader wave of folk-inflected black metal coming out of Europe at the time, Moonsorrow being the obvious touchstone, but Samain had their own sense of place, which counts for a lot. A genuine piece of local underground history and a rare find on CD.
