PALE DIVINE Crimson Tears (1997-2008) CD
American doom metal has a specific kind of loneliness to it, something slower and more dust-covered than its European counterparts, and Pennsylvania's Pale Divine understood that instinctively. Crimson Tears collects the years 1997 to 2008, which means this is less a standard album and more a document of a band doing the work quietly, stubbornly, with nobody watching.
Pale Divine sit in that traditional doom space where the Sabbath DNA is fully intact but never treated as a ceiling. The riffs are heavy and deliberate, the atmosphere somewhere between funeral and campfire, and there's a classic rock undercurrent that keeps things from disappearing entirely into the void. This is the kind of record that rewards patience and volume. Put it on loud, let your eyes go unfocused, you'll understand it eventually.
