Maria Brink has been doing things on a stage that most metal vocalists can only theorise about, and Godmode is the sound of a band who know exactly how powerful they've become.

In This Moment's 2023 record leans hard into the gothic industrial theatricality they've been building toward since Blood, with Brink's voice moving between operatic control and raw aggression in a way that still doesn't make sense on paper but absolutely works in practice. The production is dense and layered, pulling from industrial metal, metalcore, and a strain of dark alternative that puts them in a lineage running from Nine Inch Nails through to the current wave of cinematic heavy music. It's maximalist, confrontational, and completely uninterested in dialing anything back. Good.
